Objects of the Buddhayana Retreat Society

The Objects of the Buddhayana Retreat Society 
as laid out in the Memorandum of Association under the Nova Scotia Societies Act and as registered with the Nova Scotia Registry of Joint Stock Companies :
  • To support and encourage the practice of Buddhist meditation through the maintenance of, development of and perpetuation of the Buddhayana Forest Retreat, located on 20 hectares of wooded land, on the north side of, and between, approximately one and one and a half kilometers up John Murray Road, in Loganville, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.
  • To insure that the Buddhayana Forest Retreat always remain an independent retreat center, independent of and without affiliation to any other particular school, church or organization.
  • To insure that the Buddhayana Forest Retreat always remain a generic, non-denominational meditation center, generic and non-denominational in having no particular allegiance to any one particular Buddhist school, meditation technique or tradition, but rather drawing on, enriching, and recognizing them all as valid Dharma vehicles leading to and emanating from the one vehicle of Buddhayana, ie. awakened mind.
  • To insure that the Society shall never charge a fee for retreats, which will be offered free of charge. The Society may however accept donations towards the upkeep and development of the center.
  • To insure that the Society never borrow money or other resources, but always get by on what has been offered.
  • To insure that the Society never uses Buddhayana Forest Retreat land as collateral, or cause to place any kind of lien on these.
  • To insure that the Buddhayana Forest Retreat forest is protected and nurtured towards being a stable old growth mixed hardwood forest.
  • To insure that the Society does everything reasonably possible to see that it retains title to Buddhayana Forest Retreat land for the purpose of fulfilling the Society's Objects.
  • To acquire by way of grant, gift or purchase, bequest, devise or otherwise, real and personal property and to use and apply such property to the realization of the objects of the Society.
  • To buy, own, lease, hold, mortgage, sell and convey such real and personal property as may be necessary or desirable in the carrying out of the objects of the society.
Provided nothing herein contained shall permit the Society to carry on any trade, industry or business and the Society shall be carried on without purpose of gain to any members and that any surplus or any accretions of the Society shall be used solely for the purposes of the Society and the promotion of its objects. Provided, further, that if for any reasons the operations of the society are terminated or are wound up, or are dissolved and there remains, at that time, after satisfaction of all its debts and liabilities, any property whatsoever, the same shall be paid to some other charitable organization in Canada, having objects similar to those of the Society.
